Bijuu (尾 獣 literally "Tailed Beast") is a term derived from a well known Japanese legend about a war that existed between these monsters. The Naruto Shukaku is based on the tanuki, an animal commonly associated with Japanese pranks and evolutionism. The reference to "kettle" and the corrupt priest also derives from tales about tanuki.
